This was my first meeting of ExCo since returning to Island nearly two weeks ago and having the honour to be sworn in as Acting Governor.

2: St Helena - Appointment of Acting Attorney General and Locum Crown Counsel - St Helena (Legal) - 30.08.2010
Following the departure of the Attorney General, Mr Ken Baddon on overseas leave and, in accordance with sections 95 and 118(3) of the St Helena, Ascension and Tristan Da Cunha Constitution, Mr Francis Joseph Wastell, Crown Counsel, has been appointed to the position of Acting Attorney General with effect from 26 August 2010.

Derek Henry has joined the Office of the Chief Secretary’s (OCS) team as Manager of Central Administration with effect from today, 23 August 2010.

Following the recent air access announcement, work has commenced to ensure that SHG is able to meet the condition laid down by the Secretary of State for International Development which states that “the St Helena Government undertakes to implement the reforms needed to open the island’s economy to inward investment and tourism”.

Following the return of Chief Secretary, Mr Andrew Wells and Mrs Wells on 11 August from overseas leave, His Excellency Governor Gurr and Mrs Gurr will depart St Helena on board the RMS St Helena when she leaves for Cape Town later that day.

On Saturday, 24th July, the Expeditionary Air Wing HQ gave 30 personnel from all ranks and Services the opportunity to visit the Wing and have a look around the different types of aircraft that mount operations in the Falkland Islands. The tour included talks on the Sea King, the VC10 & C130J Hercules* as well the Typhoons, the fast-jet fighter aircraft.
