- Financial Secretary, Virginia Grace, left St Helena on 14 December having spent almost two years on the Island.

- The Bailey bridge forms a key part of the St Helena Access Ramp Project (SHARP for short). By use of a pontoon moored beyond the worst of the swell movement, with a hinged bridge to the wharf, it is intended to enable passengers on cruise ships to come ashore in swells that are deemed by the ships’ captains too great to use the landing steps.

- The St Helena Government is consulting on the media and on how it might develop in St Helena. SHG is interested in this area because a significant amount of public money is involved and media plays a key role in our society.

- Members of Legislative Assembly have agreed to re-allocate portfolios to enable the Hon Sharon Halford MLA to become a member of the Public Accounts Committee.

- Following a recruitment campaign to attract registered nurses from abroad to work within the General Hospital on St Helena, two nurses from Zimbabwe have recently joined the team.
Ms Anna Colletta Chiduku and Mrs Blessing Phiri have been engaged as Staff Nurses on one year contracts. Both ladies have extensive experience in general nursing and have worked in large hospitals in Zimbabwe prior to travelling to St Helena.

- Tristan da Cunha is an active volcano and a future eruption is inevitable. Knowing when, where and how large the next eruption will be is the aspiration of any volcanologist and is important for those living close to active volcanoes. Unfortunately, the complexities of nature often triumph over scientific knowledge, so volcanologists can only gather clues and use their training, modern scientific techniques and equipment to make a best estimate.

- Oil boom, boom, boom has been touted throughout the media world since the transfer of the Ocean Guardian to the Falklands was announced. Like in 1997/8 stories abound about Falklands' oil bonanza and lots of money being earned by 3,000 Islanders. It’s a nice pipe dream but no thanks.

- Dick Beales is currently on the island for three weeks assisting the Government of St Helena with an analysis of the current status of the fishing industry and the preparation of a strategic vision for the fisheries sector to the year 2020.

- Superintendent Paul Elliott leaves the Islands on Friday 27th November having been made redundant just two years into his original three year contract as part of the Chief Executives Review of Government.
