- Results released today by the Falkland Islands Tourist Board reveal that cruise tourism brought almost £4.2 million revenue into the Falklands in the 2008-9 season. This figure includes spend on tours, shopping, food and beverage, as well as over £1.3 million in the form of government taxes and levies.

- The Ascension Island Council held a formal meeting on Tuesday 14 July 2009. His Excellency the Governor, visiting Ascension for two days en route to the UK, was present. All members were present with the exception of Councillor Poultney who is off island. Councillor Peters joined the meeting by video link.

- Mr Spink added that he spoke on the Chamber’s hope of making progress with FIG on representation in the regulation of the telecommunications monopoly in the Islands. The Chamber has been a significant force in promoting action by FIG to improve performance of the telecommunications provider. Progress has been slow we originally wrote to FIG in January 2008,

 - Chief Secretary Andrew Wells was sworn in as Acting Governor for St Helena and its Dependencies. This is the second time Mr Wells has served as Acting Governor since his arrival in late 2008.

 - Richard McKee of the Government of South Georgia and the South Sandwich Islands says that yet again the number of vessels visiting South Georgia increased last season with a total of 70 cruise ship and 25 yachts visits carrying 7,800 passengers. This is a 120% increase in passenger numbers over the last 5 years.

- Yesterday there was a very important debate in Legislative Council. You will know that at the end of that debate the voting of your Elected Members was tied at four for the proposed new Constitution, and four against. The two Ex-Officio Members of Council, the Chief Secretary and the Financial Secretary, have the right to vote under the existing Constitution, but on my instruction did not do so as they are not elected by the people.
