- A public meeting was held in the Court and Council Chamber of the Town Hall at 1700 hrs on Tuesday, 26 August 2008. Present were Councillors Rendell, Cockwell, Summers, Clausen, Robertson and Hansen.

- Crude prices declined significantly today as speculation that Hurricane Gustav would not affect severely the infrastructure in the Gulf of Mexico was ripe. However, in 24 hours things could change. We wait and see.

- Today’s crude price increases are entirely due to Hurricane Gustav. The storm’s projected path shows a direct hit on the oil infrastructure located off the Louisiana coast. Some reports state that rigs in the affected area are already being evacuated.

- "The new South Atlantic Airbridge contract has been awarded to Chapman Freeborn: the service will be operated by ‘flyglobespan’ using a B767 aircraft four times per fortnight with effect from Wednesday 1 October 2008.

- Crude prices increased today due to a weakening US Dollar and storms in the North Atlantic. Keep in mind that the North Atlantic includes all ocean located above the equator and not as some think, above the 40s that roar.

 - The Falkland Islands Post Office and Philatelic Bureau are pleased to announce the release of a Sheetlet of four stamps and a First Day of Issue cover to commemorate the 90th Anniversary of the Royal Air Force.

- Crude prices eased today when Hurricane Fay’s path caused no threat to industry infrastructure in the Gulf of Mexico. There is also the pending opening of the Tblisi-Baku-Ceythan pipeline after repairs.

- Since the sinking of the Ocean 8, the Falkland Islands Government has been encouraging the vessel's owners and their insurance company to take responsibility for their vessel and produce a plan to deal with the oil on board.

- Easing demand due to poor economic data caused the decline in the price of crude today. Yesterday demand from emerging markets was used as a factor in increasing crude prices but HDR maintains that people in those markets also have to tighten their belts as the cost of their energy goes through the roof.
