1: Legislative Council (Part 1) 28 January 2005 - Falklands (Legal) - 31.01.2005
A meeting of Legislative Council took place on Friday, 28 January 2005 in the Court and Council Chamber of the town hall at 1030am. Present were Councillors Birmingham, Cheek, Edwards, N., Edwards, R., Hansen, Luxton and Summers. Cllr. Cockwell was ill.

Officials from the St Helena Government and the Ascension Island Government met on Friday afternoon. This was the first meeting of the Joint Consultative Forum and video conferencing equipment was used.

At the December 2004 meeting of the Planning and Building Committee, a member requested comment from the Building Adviser upon two instances where she was aware the builder had not notified his office as required by the terms of The Building Regulations 1999. These were in connection with a large double garage attached to a house and the other a new dwelling on East Stanley.

A Canadian delegation of parliamentarians has just completed a fact-finding visit to the Falkland Islands from 15 to 22 January 2005. The parliamentarians have visited several businesses and government departments as well as Camp and tourist attractions whilst in the Islands.

As Ellen MacCarthur enters the 47th day (13 January 2005) of her single-handed circumnavigation of the globe, in her trimaran B&Q, she can take some comfort from the fact that she has safely sailed through one of the most dangerous maritime regions in the world, Cape Horn. Battling through 30+ knots of wind sustained and reaching up to 50 knots in squalls, she has begun her northerly passage through the South Atlantic to the West of the Falkland Islands.
