 - Governor Hollamby arrived on Tristan da Cunha on Wednesday 21 January and while there, he will be speaking about the visit of the RMS St Helena to the Island.

- Having imported six rams from the UK last year, the Agriculture and Natural Resources Department has now placed four out on the pasturelands.

- Since launching the Long Term Unemployment Policy last October, the Employment and Social Security Department has been working closely with the unemployed to identify their training needs. Some people have also embarked on training programmes.

- A new report on oil exploration claims that there has been a decrease in the number of reserves discovered. It follows the revelation from Shell that reserves of Oil and Gas are 20% lower than it had earlier believed.

ordinary share of 1p each in the Company ('Existing Ordinary Shares'), to raise
in aggregate up to approximately £6.97 million (after expenses).

- Air links between the Falkland Islands and the South American mainland are the subject of two understandings reached between HMG and the Argentine Government, under a sovereignty umbrella (which protects both sides’ positions on the question of sovereignty).

 - The Rt. Reverend, David Connor, Dean of Windsor and Bishop of the Armed Forces has confirmed three people: Dr. Roger Diggle, Hannah Arthur-Almond and Beverley Lee into the Church of England at a specially arranged service at Christ Church Cathedral on Sunday evening. There was a robed choir in attendance as well as a full congregation.

 - With the honoured guests, including the one with the speech, still aloft in the Tristar, H. E. the Governor, Mr Howard Pearce, stepped into the breach and became Pooh Bah of sorts, at Myriam Booth’s retirement ceremony, held at the Chamber of Commerce Building on Thursday evening.

 - Members of the House of Lords Select Committee on Science and Technology are in the Antarctic conducting an investigation into international treaties – in this case, the Antarctic Treaty – and looking at the British Antarctic Survey’s science programme with a view to procuring funding for the next few years.

- Local and international volunteers have supported Falklands Conservation over the past few years. Without their help and support, many projects sponsored by the charity would be impossible to complete. Falklands Conservation are keen to more effectively assess the volunteer skills available to them in the Islands.

 - Governor Hollamby has appointed Mrs Greta Pat Musk MBE JP, to be Sheriff of St Helena for another year. The appointment takes effect from 1 January 2004.

 - A number of road projects are taking place on the Island, and some are nearing completion. Since the Public Works and Services Department is now using a new method in resurfacing roads, they are expecting better value for money on future projects

- The five-year Health Link II Programme commenced just on a year ago, this being one of St Helena’s largest projects which will consume some £6.3m. Most of the funding comes from the Department for International Development.

 - The Post Office has sold most of its Christmas stamps. The Commemorative Christmas Issue featured five stamps and an Official First Day Cover.

- Dr Corinda Essex is back on Island, having attended the European Union Overseas Countries and Territories Forum in Brussels. She also attended a number of meetings to discuss development projects for St Helena.

- Councillor Cyril Gunnell is currently away from the Island. He will be visiting one of the Caribbean Overseas Territories in January on an FCO sponsored visit to observe the workings of a Ministerial system of Government. Councillor Cathy Hopkins will also be attending.

- St Helena recently saw the visit of the MV Orion which called on 1 December and remained in James Bay until the next day. The vessel had 138 passengers on board and 66 crew and she was on her way to Tristan da Cunha, having last called at Ascension Island.
