This month sees the local inception of the South Atlantic Invasive Species Project with the appointment of two project officers: one on the Falkland Islands and one on St Helena. The EC-funded project is being managed on behalf of the St Helena Government by the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds in the UK. Invasives are introduced species that have adverse ecological, economic or societal effects.

Several of Bolivia’s companies and agencies that have benefited from the May 1st nationalisation of hydrocarbons are about to give a school bonus to approximately 1,200,000 children. The $25.00 (200 Bolivianos) is earmarked for helping families with food and school expenditures. The South American press indicated the sum will be given to the children on an annual basis. Payments began at 300 schools on Sunday, 12 November 2006.

Media Ops at HQBFSAI reported on Monday morning that Search and Rescue Teams from 78 Squadron were tasked on Sunday to rescue 31 crew members and a fisheries observer from the scalloping vessel, Holdberg, after the FPV Dorada relayed a call for help from the stricken vessel.
