NEW HEADTEACHER FOR PRINCE ANDREW SCHOOL
Director of Education and Employment Colin Moore has announced that Mr Paul Starkie has been appointed as the new Head teacher at Prince Andrew School succeeding Abraham Swart on the completion of his contract at the end of December this year.
Paul Starkie, currently Head of the Secondary School at The British School of Brussels in Belgium, was appointed through an international recruitment campaign led by the Education and Employment Directorate.
“Paul has a wealth of knowledge and experience and I am very much looking forward to working with him when he comes into post. I would like to express my congratulations to Paul and his family. I know that everyone will wish them a very warm welcome when they return home to St Helena.
“Whilst I am not able to give any date of when Paul will commence work, it is safe to say that he and I are already in regular discussion about school matters so that we effect a smooth handover of leadership.”
Paul commented on his new appointment:
“I am absolutely delighted to have been appointed as Headteacher of Prince Andrew School. St Helena is perhaps going through the most significant period in its history. There are challenges and opportunities for education in the years ahead and I am looking forward to working together with stakeholders to ensure that Prince Andrew School is a beacon of success in the future. Lisa, Zac and I are excited to be coming home, to see our family and re-connect with our many friends.”
Paul is an experienced educationalist with a strong record in School management having previously been Head of Secondary at The British International School in Jakarta. Paul holds the National Professional Qualification for Headship (NPQH) and is currently completing his training as an Ofsted Inspector. He will be a familiar name to many on the island as he previously served as a Secondary Educational Advisor with the ODA at Prince Andrew School between 1988 and 1992.
Current Head teacher Abraham has decided to seek new challenges in 2013.
“Abraham has led the school during a time of considerable change and we would like to wish him well and thank him for his services to education on St Helena. There will of course be ample opportunity in the months ahead for us to appropriately recognise the contribution that Abraham has made to the school.”
