St Helena : 60 ENDEMICS PLANTED AT PLANTATION TO MARK QUEEN’S DIAMOND JUBILEE

60 endemic Gumwood trees were planted in the Gardens of Plantation House, HE The Governor’s Residence, on Tuesday, 5th June 2012, to commemorate 60 years of the Queen’s reign.
60 ENDEMICS PLANTED AT PLANTATION TO MARK QUEEN’S DIAMOND JUBILEE
60 endemic Gumwood trees were planted in the Gardens of Plantation House, HE The Governor’s Residence, on Tuesday, 5th June 2012, to commemorate 60 years of the Queen’s reign.
This special event was organised by the St Helena Nature Conservation Group and trees were planted by HE Governor Capes, Mrs Capes and over 60 invited guests with connections to the conservation of the environment on St Helena.
30 trees were planted at the west end of the lawn and 30 on the right, near the entrance. Names of the planters were also attached to the individual trees.
After the tree planting refreshments were served and all were able to enjoy an afternoon of light music.
There is a strong Royal connection at Plantation House - Her Majesty Elizabeth II visited Plantation House in 1947 when she was Princess Elizabeth and was able to feed bananas to Jonathon, the eternal tortoise, who was also present at last Tuesday’s tree planting event.
