NEXT FINANCIAL SECRETARY APPOINTED

Colin Owen, St Helena Government’s Chief Auditor, has been selected as St Helena’s new Financial Secretary and will succeed Paul Blessington when he leaves the Island at the end of August.  Colin Owen’s appointment, following shortlisting and interview, comes after a rigorous recruitment process and a high level of interest in the post.

Colin said:  ‘I am thoroughly looking forward to my new role as Financial Secretary, especially at such an important and exciting time for the Island.  My family and I have been here now for almost two years, and we are all very happy to be able to call          St Helena home for another three.

‘There are exciting and challenging times ahead for St Helena and her people, and my work will involve being part of the process of steering the Island towards sustained economic growth and prosperity for future generations of Saints.

‘I have really enjoyed my time as Chief Auditor, and I would like to thank the excellent team within the St Helena Audit Service for their support and dedication to moving the service forward’.

Governor Capes said: ‘I’m sorry that we will be saying farewell to Paul Blessington in a few months; he has achieved much during his tenure and can be rightly proud of his fine record. But we are fortunate to have secured the services of Colin Owen as his successor. Colin is well known for his expertise and professionalism as Chief Auditor and I am confident that he will prove to be a very competent Financial Secretary’

Colin will take up his new position in early September.
