Two Young Falkland Islanders accompanied The Hon Mr Roger Edwards MLA to Quito, Ecuador to attend the United Nations Special Committee on Decolonization — also known as the C-24. The Pacific Regional Seminar was held from 30 May to 1 June this year.
The seminar is intended to review progress in the United Nations decolonization process, with the Falkland Islands represented by Member of the Legislative Assembly Roger Edwards.
“I am delighted that Andrew and Krysteen will be accompanying us to C-24 this year. I feel it is very important to introduce the next generation of Falkland Islanders to the political realities of our situation at an early stage,” said the Hon Mr Mike Summers MLA.
Andrew Pollard said, “I am very honoured to be able to represent the Falkland Islands at the C-24. There is a great need to increase the global awareness of the Falkland Islands. Whilst I am not a politician, I am a Falkland Islander who is passionate about my country and understands the social, economic and political strengths and challenges that we all currently face”
The C24 declined an offer from the Legislative Assembly to host the seminar in the Falkland Islands this year, although the Falklands is to have a special full day session before the Committee in New York on 14th June. MLA Mike Summers and MLA Roger Edwards will form the Falkland Islands delegation, for the first time accompanied by young Islanders Andrew Pollard and Krysteen Ormond.
