BARN DANCE REPORT FROM CHRIST CHURCH CATHEDRAL
By Alison Ingles
Christ Church Cathedral held another very successful Barn Dance in the Parish Hall on the evening of Friday 11 May. Over 70 members of the community gathered from 7 to 11pm to put their dancing shoes to good use. The dancing was led by Derek Howatt, who talked and walked the participants through a number of Scottish country ‘set’ dances such as the Riverside and the Oxo Reel, which are much enjoyed by children and the young at heart. There were also enough waltzes, sambas and quicksteps to keep the older dancers happy.
Marlene Newman led two sessions of line-dancing, which particularly appealed to residents of Stanley House. The kitchen staff were kept busy all night selling a variety of refreshments, occasionally escaping to join in a Palais Glide or Virginia Reel. The organisers would like to say thank you to Derek and Marlene, and to everyone who turned up to make it such a good night out.
