Six teams braved the wintery weather on Sunday afternoon as they set out on a Scavenger Hunt organised by members of Christ Church Cathedral.

Six teams braved the wintery weather on Sunday afternoon as they set out on a Scavenger Hunt organised by members of Christ Church Cathedral. 15 adults and 9 children were set a number of challenges, which saw them track down local artists and writers, ransack lofts and outhouses, pick teaberries in the bitter cold, and photograph a variety of the more unusual flags on display on Stanley’s flag-poles.
Highlights from the hunt included the 19th c. Howatt family bible, polished stones from the Ellis household, a mudguard from a Government House landrover and a selection of tropical seashells which one enterprising team ‘borrowed’ from an absent friend. Handicrafts made by participants ranged from the children’s Sue Whitley art entries to articles worthy of first prize in the annual Craft Fair to hastily-drawn pictures. One team gained bonus points for a photograph of their favourite Stanley landmark (the ‘husband creche’).
Upon returning to the Parish Hall, each team was challenged to use some of the items collected to make a picture on the ‘Falklands 30’ theme. The best entry was adjudged to be a map of the Falkland Islands made of shredded flower petals with outer islands represented by pebbles and shells. It was made by Tim Stenning and ‘The Noisy Crew’, who over coffee and cake were delighted to find that they had won first prize for the most points overall.
The next social event organised by Cathedral members will be a family Barn Dance in the Parish Hall on Friday 11 May, to which everyone is warmly invited.
