On behalf of the previous Governors of the Falkland Islands and their families from the 1960s onwards we should like to express our sadness at the death of Nanny Fullerton and to send our sincere condolences to all her family and friends. A Tribute from former Governors to Mary “Nanny” Fullerton

On behalf of the previous Governors of the Falkland Islands and their families from the 1960s onwards we should like to express our sadness at the death of Nanny Fullerton and to send our sincere condolences to all her family and friends. We also wish to express our great appreciation of all that she did for us and all that she meant to us.

Nanny joined Government House in 1966 when she came to look after Julian Haskard, the three-year-old son of Sir Cosmo and Lady Haskard. She was an invaluable help to them and from that time and for many years she was a permanent and much loved presence in GH, becoming affectionately known as Nanny. To all of us who lived in Government House and to everyone who worked there and stayed there as guests she was a constant source of friendship, help and support - in good times and in days of difficulty. Her commitment to GH was steadfast.

Nanny saw many of us come and go and we shall all have our different and treasured memories of her. But what we all share is a great affection for her and a deep sense of gratitude for her kindness and loyalty. Among her many endearing qualities were her warm heart, her generosity and her courage. And when we left the Falklands she became a wonderful correspondent and an enduring link for us with the Islands.

[Today] we’d like to say a heartfelt thank you to you Nanny. You will be greatly missed and you have been much loved.
