Councillor Gunnell back on Island

Councillor Cyril Gunnell has recently returned to the Island having represented St Helena in high level discussions at the first International Parliamentary Conference on the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) and TB-HIV AIDS Summit in London.

The MDGs Conference “Reaching for 2015: Governance, Accountability and the Role of the Parliamentarian” was hosted by the UK Commonwealth Parliamentary Association. 61 parliamentarians from 33 parliaments and legislatures of the Commonwealth and non-Commonwealth countries participated in this conference.

The aim was for each parliamentarian to express their commitment to the full realisation of the MDGs; to highlight the important contributions required from parliamentary democracy; and to commit to renewed work to ensure the timely and full implementation of the MDGs by 2015.

The TB-HIV AIDS Summit - ‘Save a Million Lives by 2015’ was hosted by the All Party Parliamentary Group and focused on Global Tuberculosis and HIV/AIDS in conjunction with the UK Commonwealth Parliamentary Association.
