Falklands : DANNY
Submitted by Falkland Islands News Network (Juanita Brock) 11.02.2012 (Article Archived on 25.02.2012)

DANNY

An Editorial by J. Brock (FINN)

Give this man a Pulitzer Prize!

When acid stomach erupts over the silly word war raging between the UK and Argentine Medias, I wonder how – yea even why is should get worse.  Then I think of Danny, a Syrian-British activist, who has pleaded for the UN and US to stop the bloodshed in Syria as people in his neighbourhood prepare to die.

Understandably some of the reasoning behind the UN Secretary General’s advice for Argentina and Britain to cool it over the Falkland Islands has its roots in what the people of Syria are suffering now.

After reading about the submarine with nuclear weapons, I had enough and was fulminating a silly editorial about exploding earwigs set to invade Argentina but then I noticed a piece on CNN about Danny and changed gear.

Admittedly, given the influx of reporters from the UK and South America, Danny’s videos, shot in the most appalling conditions, were in the background but given the produce of those sent to report about the Falklands, I have decided to put Danny first and use him as an example of outstanding street-level work.

Hopefully the media would think again about priorities and take Danny’s example.

FINN is aware the risks you are taking, Danny.  May God keep you safe to report again and again ad infinitum.
