Mark Capes, the new Governor for St Helena will arrive on Saturday 29th October, accompanied by his wife Tamara.

St Helena’s New Governor arrives on Saturday


 


Mark Capes, the new Governor for St Helena will arrive on Saturday 29th October, accompanied by his wife Tamara.


 


An Inauguration Ceremony to mark this occasion will be held on Saturday afternoon at 2pm on the Grand Parade. Here the new Governor will take the Oaths of Office.


 


A busy schedule awaits the new Governor and during his first week of office he will be meeting with the Chief Secretary, Financial Secretary, Attorney General, Chief Executive for Economic Development, Deputy Chief Secretary, Chief of Police and DfID Representative. He will also be meeting with the Executive and Legislative Councils.


 


Meetings will continue over the months ahead with Directors and Senior Officials of SHG as well as meetings with other various non-government organisations.


 


Prior to taking on this appointment Mark Capes was the Chief Executive Officer of the Turks and Caicos Islands. He has also held the position of Deputy Governor in both Bermuda and Anguilla and has worked in Portugal, Jordan, Yugoslavia, Nigeria, Austria and New Zealand.


 


The arrival of the new Governor means that the Acting Governor, Ken Baddon will return to his normal post of Attorney General and Morag Stevenson to Assistant Crown Counsel.
