To commemorate 100 years of the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association (CPA), the St Helena Branch will be celebrating with a focus on the inaugural meeting of the St Helena Youth Parliament on Monday 24th October 2011.

To commemorate 100 years of the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association (CPA), the St Helena Branch will be celebrating with a focus on the inaugural meeting of the St Helena Youth Parliament on Monday 24th October 2011.
The Youth Parliament is designed to give young people a formal voice on St Helena.
The occasion will begin with an Ecumenical Gathering in St James’ Church at 9.45am for all members of the CPA including previous members of Legislative Council and members of the Youth Parliament. The public are also invited to attend.
All will then process to the Court House for a special meeting of the St Helena Branch of the CPA at 10.30am. A short address will be given by the President of the St Helena Branch, Cathy Hopkins MBE and it is hoped to have a recorded video message from the Secretary General of the CPA , Dr William F. Shija.
The inaugural meeting of the St Helena Youth Parliament will begin at 11.20am and the topic for debate will be ‘Changing the Voting Age’. Five Youth Parliamentarians accompanied by two Elected Members will argue ‘for and against’ the issue.
The debate is expected to last an hour and will be followed by a group photo shoot on the Court House Steps.
To conclude this special event a lunch will be arranged for all members of the CPA and Youth Parliamentarians.
