JOINT SERVICE EXPLOSIVE ORDNANCE DISPOSAL CONDUCTS STANLEY SCHOOL PRESENTATIONS
In a display of their continuing support to the Falkland Islands community, two members of the JSEOD team based at MPC conducted mine awareness training to the local school children of Stanley on Wednesday 6th July. The team spent time at both senior and junior schools, and were able to pass on their invaluable experience to the youngsters who were lucky enough to attend.
The hands on presentations were carried out by Sgt Hemmingway and Chief Tech Gauci, both members of the JSEOD team based at MPC. The team covered areas including general mine field information, mine recognition and some basic ‘dos’ and ‘don’ts’ should the youngsters find themselves in difficulty. Following this they explained their roles and what assistance they provide in the event of being called out to assist people, or remove suspected mines. This was followed by a question and answer session in which Sgt Hemmingway found himself inundated with an array of interesting and relevant questions posed by the receptive audiences.
Head Teacher of the Senior School, Helen Bell commented:
‘It is important to maintain the close link with JSEOD despite their recent move. Even though they have moved to MPC it is good to see that their services are still fully available to the local community.’
