NEW RECORD FOR NATWEST ISLAND GAMES
The final registration is complete and yet another record has been broken!
Almost 3.500 participants will take part in the Games and this does not include the hundreds of volunteers from Isle of Wight that are needed to run the competition.
Top 5 Islands include:
1. Isle of Wight: 316 participants
2. Guernsey: 296 participants
3. Jersey: 282 participants
4. Isle of Man: 236 participants
5. Åland: 221 participants
Chairman of the 2011 Organising Committee, David Ball, stated:
”The 2011 Organising Committee is delighted at the level of entries and support for the Games due to commence here in a few short weeks. We have worked hard to try and provide the Islands with good facilities both in and out of the competition arenas and we look forward to hosting a great week of keen but ever friendly competition in the true spirit of the NatWest Island Games.”
24 of our 25 Member Islands will attend the 2011 NatWest Island Games – the largest multi-sport event in Great Britain this year. Unfortunately Prince Edward Island’s basketball and football teams will not participate due to last minute funding difficulties.
”Whilst this is disappointing it will have a very limited effect on the total numbers of competitors”, Jorgen Pettersson, Chairman of the International Island Games Association commented.
