DFID Management Advisor Visits St Helena

As part of the DfID funded Public Sector Modernisation Programme (PSMP) a Records Management Adviser was recently on Island to advise SHG how best to improve information sharing across Directorates.

Tanya Karlebach arrived on 28th February to look at ways of enhancing information management and how to capture information containing key decisions and actions. The overall aim of Tanya’s visit was to seek ways of increasing the overall efficiency and accountability of records management procedures.

As a result of Tanya’s work here, from this week The Secretariat, formerly known as the Office of the Chief Secretary, will be piloting the new records management procedures. This includes the use of an electronic network for storing and sharing information.

As a result of Tanya’s work, SHG plans to move towards electronic filing shortly.

Tanya said:

“The staff of the Secretariat have been very supportive of the changes and we are hopeful that after the inevitable teething problems, everything will run smoothly.  The outcome should be not only a decrease in paper files and duplication of effort but also greater information sharing and more efficient working practices.”

Tanya left St Helena on 12th April 2011, and the pilot is being overseen and supported by the IT Section and Andrea Mittens, the PSMP Project Assistant.
