Economist to arrive shortly

An Economist for the St Helena Government will be arriving shortly. Owen James accompanied by his partner will arrive on 11th April and will be based at the Strategic Planning and Policy Unit (SPPU), the Castle.

The SPPU provides support to Councillors and departments on policy development and strategic planning.

Owen will be one of two Economists within the SPPU, the second being Janet Lawrence. The Economists’ role is to provide economic advice and analysis supporting the development and application of policies required in achieving St Helena’s national objectives.

Owen will report directly to the Director of the SPPU, Susan O’Bey and will work closely with the Governor, Chief Secretary and Financial Secretary, the staff of the SPPU, Directors and Elected Members.

Regarding the appointment of Owen, Susan O’Bey said:

“We are looking forward to Owen joining our team; his input will be particularly helpful in supporting Elected Members as they develop the policies to support the MOU reform programme”.

Owen is contracted by SHG for a period of two years.
