St Helena : St Helena's Councillor Yon to attend Overseas Forum

Councillor Mervyn Yon departed the Island on Tuesday 8th February to attend the annual European Union Overseas Countries and Territories Forum in New Caledonia.

Councillor Yon to attend Overseas Forum


Councillor Mervyn Yon departed the Island on Tuesday 8th February to attend the annual European Union Overseas Countries and Territories Forum in New Caledonia.


This visit is being funded by the European Union.


One of the main topics of discussion at the forum will be the future of relations between the Overseas Countries and Territories and the European Union. This will be an important topic for St Helena to get involved with and Councillor Yon will take the opportunity to speak on behalf of the island while at the forum.  Other topics on the agenda include working sessions on Public Health and Environmental Issues. Attendance will also allow Councillor Yon to meet with other delegates and discuss issues with them relating to the Island.


St Helena’s UK representative, Kedell Worboys will also be attending the forum with Councillor Yon Following his attendance Councillor Yon will then return to the UK.


Councillor Yon will return to the Island on 3rd April when the RMS comes from the UK.


During this time Councillor Brian Isaac will serve as Acting Chair of the Infrastructure and Utilities Committee.
