FRESH INTELLIGENCE SPARKS RENEWED ADDIS SEARCH
By J. Brock (FINN)
Earlier in December FINN received information about renewed interest in the Alan Addis disappearance. Phone calls and one on one submissions indicated that a team of police were at North Arm investigating the 30-year old disappearance of Allan Addis.
Chief Police Officer, Gary Flinchett, confirmed to FINN that an investigation was on-going and that an area in North Arm was being visited – this time not by the Devin and Cornwall Constabulary, as first thought. He subsequently told Penguin News that a two-man team from Scotland Yard and members of the Royal Falkland Islands Police had searched a property in North Arm, acting on new intelligence received. He went on to say that there were several lines of inquiry being pursued by the team.
In 1995/6 a huge effort using ground penetrating radar and sniffer dogs was inconclusive, with five members of the public being detained for questioning at MPA. Initially, in 1980, a massive ground and air search turned up nothing and was called off.
Thus far the names of the investigating officers are not known to FINN. The 1995/6 UK team consisted of DCI Bob Pennington, Staff Sgt. Howard White, DC Bob Latham, DC Steve Turpin and DC Giles Boyling.
At the time Alan Addis’ mother put out an appeal for information about the disappearance. She has visited the Islands on several occasions, hoping to find out what happened to her son.
