Councillors to Attend Meetings Overseas

Councillor Tara Thomas, Chair of the Economy and Finance Committee and Councillor Tony Green, Chair of the Education and Employment Committee, have been nominated by Elected Members to represent St Helena at overseas meetings this year.

Councillor Thomas will represent the Island at the Overseas Territories Consultative Council where it is customary to have an Elected Member of the St Helena Executive Council in attendance. The St Helena Government UK Representative, Kedell Worboys, will also be at the meeting.

Councillor Green is to attend Commonwealth Parliamentary Association seminars on International Parliamentary Governance.

Attendance at these conferences and seminars will allow both Councillors to hear about and discuss issues that are of importance to St Helena. In addition, they will have the opportunity to meet representatives and officials from other Overseas Territories and Commonwealth Countries, and to discuss common problems with them and possible solutions.

In addition both Councillors are planning to attend a number of other meetings in the UK to discuss a range of issues relating to the future of the Island.
