Team Falklands and Delhi 2010.

FIOGA Chairman, Mike Summers has now arrived in Delhi along with one member of the Falklands Team.  The vast majority of the team are set to arrive on 28th September with others to follow soon after.

Mike said of Heathrow and the flight to Delhi, "Check in at LHR and flights were without problem. Delhi Airport was excellently organised and all Commonwealth Games team members were met and escorted, transport to hotel was fine.  Initial meetings went well; all paperwork is now in place.”

On the accommodation allocated to the Falklands Team Mike said "I then went to inspect the accomodation allocated to us in tower 32 which is reasonably convenient to the rest of the village. We are allocated a full floor of 4 flats with 32 beds. The flats are spacious, but poorly constructed and poorly finished. Furniture etc is minimal. There are two big issues - they have not been finished off and are dirty, and the electrics are rudimantary. I have given them until tomorrow pm to show some genuine progress with cleaning and rectification works, and will report again. Have not yet seen any of the blocks that have been cleaned but will learn more tomorrow.

My current judgement is that the flats will be liveable, but don't expect too much !! I will ensure the electrics that I consider unacceptable are rectified.

Security around the village is pretty tight”

On the prospect of the Falklands team continuing to Delhi, Mike said "I really have not yet had time to make any further assessments, but will write again tomorrow evening to give a view on how to proceed. Most countries seem to be willing to give it a go, but individual high profile athletes are pulling out"
