Both the South American press and the UK Press have reported that Uruguay has denied entry to a British warship bound for the Falklands. Spokespersons from both Uruguay and the Royal Navy confirmed this on Monday.

Both the South American press and the UK Press have reported that Uruguay has denied entry to a British warship bound for the Falklands.Spokespersons from both Uruguay and the Royal Navy confirmed this on Monday.
The official line from Uruguay is that the request for entry by the frigate HMS Gloucester D-96, charged with guarding the Malvinas islands, was denied by the foreign ministry, without the navy having to get involved.”
HMS Gloucester has a crew of about 200. She wanted to source supplies and fuel in Montevideo.Argentine ports have been closed to British warships since the Falklands war.
For several years now Uruguay has supported the Argentines in their claim of sovereignty over the Falklands and has voted with it on the issue before international organisations like the UN and the Rio Group.
