Workboat Services Update on ‘Concordia Bay’ Situation:

By J. Brock (FINN)

According to an updated press release from Workboat Services, ‘Concordia Bay’ is still in dry dock in Montevideo. An adjacent vessel also in the dock caught fire on Sunday night, causing the crew of the ‘Concordia Bay’ to be evacuated to a hotel.  No personnel were injured and no damage was sustained by the ‘Concordia Bay’.

The Montevideo Ship Yard has now advised that the Fire Brigade will return control of the damaged vessel to the Yard authorities late on Tuesday if all goes well and it is confirmed that the fire is extinguished.

The Yard will then require a minimum of two days to make the damaged vessel watertight.

Importantly, the above time table is very much dependent on all going according to plan and in these circumstances that cannot be guaranteed.

An itinerary for the resumption of the service will be notified when the vessels estimated time of departure from Montevideo is known with more certainty.

As at 0820 16 August 2010

The original press release said that  Concordia Bay’ is in dry dock in Montevideo and at approximately 2130 on 15 August 2010 a report was received in Stanley that a vessel also in the dry dock, some fifteen metres from the ‘Concordia Bay’ was on fire and that the crew of ‘Concordia Bay’ had been evacuated to a hotel. All personnel are unharmed. All contactable next of kin were immediately advised.

The fire has been extinguished and first reports are that there is no damage to the ‘Concordia Bay’.  At this stage it is not known if this incident will delay the vessel departing dry dock.

Workboat Services Limited apologised for the inconvenience this delay caused their customers. The Company is making every effort is being made to keep the delay as short as possible in these difficult circumstances.
