Lobster Total Allowable Catches (TAC’s) for the 2010/11 season approved

The following Total Allowable Catches (TAC’s) for the 2010/2011 season, as recommended by the Fisheries Department and approved by the Island Council at their meeting last week, are as follows;

Approved TAC’s 2010/11                                                           TAC’s   2009/10

Tristan                        180 tonnes                              Tristan          185 tonnes

Nightingale                   72  tonnes                              Nightingale    72 tonnes

Inaccessible                105 tonnes                              Inaccessible   110 tonnes

Gough                          85 tonnes                              Gough             75 tonnes

                                   ---------------                                                     ---------------

Total                           442 tonnes                                                      442 tonnes

The overall TAC total will remain the same, as last year, however there will be an additional quota from the independent surveys, of approximately 5mt from all islands combined.

Fishing due to start on the 1st July has been delayed due to harbour works, and the PWD has been busy since the storm last month.  Now enough has been done to allow the fishing boats to start fishing.  The fishermen have been at the factory, organizing their fishing gear and storing it in their boats, ready for the first available day.

We wish all involved, Good Luck for the season!

Sarah Glass
