CATERING & RATIONS SQUADRON WALK FOR LOCAL CHARITIES
By Media Ops MPC
Last weekend, thirteen personnel serving with the Catering and Rations Squadron battled it out with the weather to raise money for Stanley Hospital and Liberty Lodge.
Following a charitable tradition set over the past 20 years, the determined team pushed on through gale force winds and rain to walk from the Mount Pleasant Complex to Bodie Creek Bridge and back. A gruelling endeavour, they all completed the 62 mile walk in the space of a weekend and without too many blisters! The Goose Green settlement kindly allowed them to overnight in the old POW shelters and also invited them into the community centre where they continued to support the event with a generous whip round.
Organiser Flight Sergeant Parry was keen to maintain the local angle and chose Stanley Hospital and Liberty Lodge as the beneficiaries of the £2,000 raised. Flight Sergeant Parry has deployed to the Falkland Islands and enjoyed participating in a charity walk before, which goes part way to explaining his inspiration for the event but he also said that “raising money for the local hospital and Liberty Lodge benefits not just the Forces but also the local community who live here and the veterans who frequently visit the islands.”
