A toast to South Georgia was given by H. E. The Governor Mr Huckle and Mr Collins
A reception for the 28th anniversary of the liberation of South Georgia was held at Government House on Monday, 26 April 2010. H. E. The Governor Mr Alan Huckle welcomed all present, many of whom have a connection with the Island.
Normally Possession Day would be celebrated in January but this year both H. E. The Governor Mr Huckle and South Georgia’s Chief Executive Officer Mr Martin Collins were on the Island at that time.
South Georgia Liberation Day also coincides with the opening of the Toothfish season. In his remarks Mr Collins mentioned several of the recent developments on the Island such as the hydro-electric Plant and the up and coming rat eradication programme.
“A toast to South Georgia and no earwigs there,” said Mr Huckle in honour of the aggressive programme to eradicate invasive species on the Island.
