St Helena : St Helena Mourns Former Governor

The St Helena Government has received news of the sad passing of former Governor, Michael Clancy, who served on St Helena as Chief Secretary from 1997 to 2000 and later as Governor and Commander in Chief of St Helena and its Dependencies from 2004 to 2007.

The St Helena Government has received news of the sad passing of former Governor, Michael Clancy, who served on St Helena as Chief Secretary from 1997 to 2000 and later as Governor and Commander in Chief of St Helena and its Dependencies from 2004 to 2007.
During his six years on St Helena, Governor Clancy worked tirelessly on key issues and problems affecting St Helena and also our sister islands, Ascension and Tristan da Cunha of whom he was also Governor. He even managed to pay a visit to Tristan da Cunha for the 500th anniversary of its discovery celebrations.
Ethel Yon OBE, worked closely with Governor Clancy during his time on the Island, first as his Deputy Secretary and later as his Acting Chief Secretary. In speaking about the sad news she said “I was deeply saddened to learn of Michael Clancy's passing. He was passionate about the well-being of St Helena and its people and I know he held fond memories of his time on St Helena.”
The St Helena Government extends its sincere condolences to Mrs Claire Clancy and family on this sad occasion.
