DIRECTOR OF MINERAL RESOURCES REACTION TO ARGENTINE PROTEST ABOUT OIL EXPLORATION

A Report for FIRS by Layla Crowie (LC) 04.02.10

The Argentine Government has this week protested about the up-coming drilling campaign in Falklands’ waters.  Director of Minerals, Phyl Rendell (PR), doesn’t believe that this is concerning the Falklands’ oil industry.

PR:  I haven’t heard any concern being expressed by our operators.  I must say we have been offline for a couple of days but we are back on today and I have now been able to catch up and read about that.  I think the industry is confident that they are coming into an area that is British Sovereign Territory and there have been some strong messages from the Foreign Office supporting that.  I think the industry isn’t concerned at the moment.
