Submitted by Falkland Islands News Network (Juanita Brock) 24.01.2010 (Article Archived on 07.02.2010)

The Falkland Islands, the United Kingdom and British Forces South Atlantic Islands were delighted to welcome Commander Donde to Stanley as he reached the half point in his epic and potentially record breaking journey around the globe.

His Honour the Acting Governor Paul Martinez said: "It is an honour to welcome Commodore Bannerjee and Commander Donde of the Indian Navy to the Falkland Islands, and to assist Commander Donde's attempt to circumnavigate the globe.  With the arrival of the Commonwealth Games baton here in the Falklands in February the timing couldn't be better." [The Commonwealth games will be held in India later this year].

As he majestically glided into Stanley Harbour on Saturday 16 January 2010, no one on the jetty would have guessed that he had been at sea for months and had experienced particularly trying weather around Cape Horn.  He is now looking forward to a two week period of repairs and recuperation on the Falkland Islands before setting off to tackle the remainder of his journey.
