ALL SET FOR THE STANLEY 2010 RAFT RACE
By J. Brock (FINN)
The Falklands’ rafting community, said to be a cross-societal group, will be partaking in the annual ‘Stanley Raft Race’ on 1 Jan 2010. Festivities start at 1230hrs.
Each year the race is organised by the Stanley Sea Cadets and is one of the fun occasions in the Falkland Islands’ social calendar. It usually attracts a large crowd of spectators and is a main fund raising event for the Sea Cadets.
Starting from B slip, near the bottom of Snake Hill, the race ends at The Narrows Bar, approximately 500 yards away. It is said that the course is physically demanding on raft crews. BFSAI teams have made strong and successful (!) showings in previous years.
According to the Civilian/Military Liaison Officer, LCDR John Mascell-Bott, Units and Departments are strongly encouraged to enter a raft. The entry form for the Stanley Raft Race can be obtained from the Stanley leisure Centre and the Gym at MPA. Completed can be sent, e-mailed or faxed to CPO (SCC) Ken Newton, OiC Sea Cadets at: CPO (SCC) Ken Newton on phone 52779 and e-mail co@tsendurance.org.fk
Entry fees from BFSAI personnel can be made on the day.
