Last week, Cpl Tara led a team of eight Gurkhas from 12 Platoon G COY 1 MERCIAN to assist Mr. Terence Phillips to build a bridge at Hope Cottage.

Day one consisted of collecting all the building materials required to build the bridge such as tyres, rocks and sand, and the team started to build the foundations of the bridge.

By the end of the second day Cpl Tara’s team had completed the foundations on both sides of the bridge, and the first phase was then finished meaning that it was strong enough for vehicles to cross with ease.

The second phase begin on day three and the team started building stone walls either side of the bridge to increase the durability of the base.

Unfortunately, bad weather slowed progress on the fourth day which meant the last day required a big push to complete the remaining work on time.  Cpl Tara’s team left Hope Cottage feeling extremely proud and happy to see a satisfied Terence Phillips on completion of the GURKHA BRIDGE.

It was great opportunity for the Gurkhas to work with and spend time in the local community before their tour as the RIC comes to an end.  D Company 2 Royal Anglian roulement as the RIC this week.
