Energy Manager Settles In

The St Helena Government has recruited an Energy Manager to work in the Public Works and Services Department on a two year contract.

The successful applicant is Kwaramba Mukarakate and he has been working with the Energy Division for the last two weeks.

Kwaramba is originally from Zimbabwe but comes to St Helena from Johannesburg where he was last working as a private consultant engineer. Through his work, he has travelled extensively and he has taken on various positions in the engineering and project management fields.

He has a Masters degree in Electrical Engineering along with experience gained from training programmes he has undertaken.

Kwaramba said “after travelling to many countries, it is nice to be spending time on St Helena. I am enjoying my work in the Energy Division and look forward to the work that lies ahead and to be an active management team player.”

In the St Helena Government, Kwaramba will work closely with Simon Oliver, Head of Energy and other staff in the Energy Division.

Most of his time will be dedicated to further developing the Island’s electrical network and its generation supply so that the division can meet St Helena’s growing energy needs.

In particular, Kwaramba will look at where St Helena could be using new technology to deliver electricity and he will implement such systems where possible. In addition he will be looking at how the Island can make better use of renewable sources of energy such as wind and solar.

While on the Island, he will also be passing on his skills to staff in the Energy Division so as to further develop the workforce.
