SHG Public Consultation
Following the successful trial meetings on 3rd and 4th December, and further discussion with Councillors, St. Helena Government will be arranging a structured series of public meetings throughout 2008 to enable the public to comment on evolving policies and draft legislation. The normal pattern will be to hold the meetings monthly, alternating between the two constituencies. Dates and venues will be published well in advance to allow those interested in attending to keep the relevant dates clear of any conflicting activities.
The main agenda items for each meeting will be published a week in advance, and relevant Government officials will be in attendance to assist with the topics under discussion. It is likely that, after the formal business of each meeting, Councillors will take the opportunity to hold a constituency meeting, in which any participation by officials will be limited to them acting in their private capacities as constituents.
The monthly cycle will commence in February. In January, there will be two meetings timed to coincide with the visit of Mr Alan Savery, the current Banking Supervisor, to discuss Financial Services legislation. The dates are provisionally set for January 10th (West in Half Tree Hollow Community Centre ) and 14th (East in Jamestown Community Centre), both commencing at 7:30pm. These arrangements will be confirmed immediately after the Block Leave.
