St Helena : St Helena Update on Airport Tender
Submitted by Saint Helena Herald (Juanita Brock) 25.08.2007 (Article Archived on 08.09.2007)

The St. Helena Air Access Team updates us on progress for the new airport.

Update on the Airport Tender

Following the visit to St Helena in June by Basil Read, Impregilo and the other members of their teams, a steady stream of enquiries has been received through Atkins for additional information to help them to put their bids together.

The St Helena Access Team (with the addition of new members now that we are moving towards the implementation phase of the project), is working with Atkins, Faber Maunsell and the DFID Access team to provide answers to these queries.

Sharon Wainwright is currently in the UK, and having completed a PRINCE2 Management course last week, met this week with Atkins, Faber Maunsell and DFID to go through outstanding issues and those new ones that the Contractors have raised, including temporary working areas and project boundaries.

In parallel with this work, we are also preparing documentation to support the application for Development Permission. Sharon will be bringing back a number of new visuals with her and we will be providing the public with an opportunity to view these and the main features of the airport development application later in the year.

As part of the preparation of their bid, Impregilo have arranged to visit St Helena again and they are expected to arrive with their proposed operating company on 20 August.
