LAPEL BADGES FOR FIDF
By J. Brock (FINN)
Whilst dealing with Mr Casey Bowling of the Ministry of Defence, who has been most helpful, Jock Elliot, Secretary of the local SAMA’82 Branch, received 28 Veterans Lapel Badges and letters in respect of the following members of the Falkland Islands Defence Force who reported for Active Service Duty on the 1st April 1982, the eve of the Argentine Invasion:
Mr Gerald Cheek Mr Marvin Clarke
Mr Anthony Davies Mr Douglas Hansen
Mr Patrick Peck Mr Tony Pettersson
Mr Derek Patterson Mr Gavin Short
Mr Robert Stewart Mr Brian Summers
Mr Terrence Summers Mr Kenneth McKay
Mr Fraser Wallace Mr Vernon Steen
Mr Robert Rozee Mr Leslie Harris
Mr Neil Ford Mr Robert McKaskill
Mr Derek Smith Mr Len McGill
Mr Les Biggs Mr Owen Summers
Mr Gerald Summers Mr Charlie Coutts
Mr Jeremy Smith Mr Martyn Smith
Mr Stuart Wallace Mr Robert King
These members of the Falkland Islands Defence Force who reported for active service duty in Stanley on 1st April 1982, not knowing what to expect on the eve of the Argentine Invasion, came forward on that fateful day for the Islands to do their duty.
Jock has sent a letter to Mr Casey Bowling on behalf of the veterans and the South Atlantic Medal Association (Falkland Islands), to say thank you very much for his very kind and helpful assistance in getting these well-deserved badges to these men.
His Excellency The Governor of the Falkland Islands, Mr Alan Huckle, will make presentations to these veterans in this 25th Anniversary year on behalf of the Under Secretary of State for Service Personnel & Veterans of the Armed Force of the United Kingdom.
Jock says, “I believe I speak for many ex-veterans of the British Forces when I say that this is a great recognition of the Falkland Islands Defence Force, all men from the Community of whom we should all be proud turned to in order to defend their Islands from a foreign invader.”
