PRESS RELEASE

ASCENSION ISLAND ADVISORY GROUP

The Acting Governor, in consultation with the substantive Governor, Michael Clancy, is pleased to announce the formation of the Ascension Island Advisory Group which will provide the Governor and the Ascension Island Government with advice.  The Governor will wish to refer some policy matters to the Group.  The Acting Governor is pleased to announce that Ian Coverdale, Ray Ellick, Cyril Leo, Malcolm Moss JP and Stedson Stroud MBE JP have accepted his invitation to join this Advisory Group.

The Acting Governor said that Governor Clancy was grateful to these members of the community on Ascension who have accepted the invitation to advise him on policy issues.  He believed that these members will bring to discussions a wide variety of experience and considerable knowledge about living and working on Ascension. He looked forward to working with them.

Ascension Island. The overall objective remains to encourage interest in returning to an elected Island Council.”

Governor Clancy envisages the Group meeting on a monthly basis probably supplemented by informal meetings with the Administrator on particular issues. He hopes that the general public on Ascension will also make their views known on particular policies and this will be encouraged by issuing brief policy consultation papers.
