Mrs Mirabelle, Herminie (TIM) Simpson, the art teacher at FICS, has received an MBE from HM the Queen.  The medal was presented to her at a ceremony at Government House on Friday, 20 April 2007.  Her name was included in the New Year’s Honours list.

Citations contributed by three people (who shall remain nameless) were read out by H. E. the Governor Mr. Alan Huckle.  They mentioned her organisation of the Sue Whitley Memorial Art and Craft Exhibition, the organisation of community art projects on behalf of businesses and government departments.  Organisations benefiting from Mrs. Simpson’s efforts include Cable & Wireless South Atlantic Ltd, Standard Chartered Bank, the Royal Falkland Islands Police and the Royal British Legion.  Mrs Simpson also inspires her students to produce art for Commonwealth Day each year.  Her Christmas card competition was also mentioned.

“These cards are great ambassadors for the Falkland Islands,” said Mr. Huckle.

Also mentioned was her inspiration behind drop in centres for students, the latest being “The Place,” providing a meeting place for young people.  Others who recommended Mrs. Simpson for the MBE said that she had a positive influence on her pupils and their future lives.  A pupil mentioned her kindness, generosity and caring personality.
