With this the goal posts will be moved to the end of the pitch as well as closing the pitch to all users. On Thursday and Friday there will be graders and quarry trucks on the pitch. The Public Works Department is to replace the culvert road crossing of the Malo River with a bridge. The work is due to commence on Monday, 06 November 2006. The crossing will be closed to traffic at the Malo River for approximately 1 month to allow full construction of the bridge abatement, the bridge and the approach road. At normal river levels the ford south of the bridge will be available for use with caution with large 4-wheel drive vehicles and trucks and the ford is likely to be impassable at higher river levels following periods of rainfall. The replacement of culverts has to be carried out as they are failing rapidly. If you wish to discuss issues relating to the road closure, please call Bob Hancox on 27387 or e-mail bhancox@megabid.gov.fk. (01/01/07)

The Royal Falkland Islands Police would like to advise all mobile telephone users of the following: Your mobile telephone, even with the keypad in the ‘locked’ mode, can still dial the emergency services accidentally, i.e. while placed in your pocket. The emergency services can be called from your mobile using the following numbers, ‘999’, ‘112’ or ‘911’. Over recent weeks a large number of false emergency calls have been received, with each call having to be traced and checked, to make sure that the caller isn’t in any distress and/or requires emergency assistance. If you do dial the emergency services by accident, please call Stanley Police Station, on 27222, to inform the Royal Falkland Islands Police that you are alright and do not require any assistance. Likewise, if you receive a call from Stanley Police Station due to your phone accidentally dialling a false ‘999’, please answer the call and inform the officer that you do not require any further assistance. This could save valuable resources and the possible deployment of emergency service personnel. If you wish to make comment on the above subject, or require further police advice on any other matter please email the

Royal Falkland Islands Police, safe@police.gov.fk, or telephone the confidential answer machine, +500 27221, all matters are treated with the strictest confidence. (Indefinite)
