Interviews Conducted for DFID Funded Posts
The Department For International Development and the St Helena Government have conducted a number of interviews for various DFID funded vacancies. Interviews were held for a Managing Director for the St Helena Development Agency, a Chief Auditor, a Social Development Planner, a Government Economist, and a Change Manager.
There were 37 applicants for the post of Managing Director. From this field of candidates, 5 people were interviewed and a successful selection was made.
There were only 7 applicants for the post of Chief Auditor, 2 of which were interviewed. Despite the small field a successful selection was made.
The post of Change Manager attracted 42 applicants, though only 3 people were interviewed and no candidate was selected. The post of Social Development Planner attracted 18 applicants and 3 candidates were interviewed, but again no candidate was selected.
Finally the post of Government Economist also remains unfilled. It is not surprising that a selection wasn’t possible from a small field of 7 applicants with only 1 person making it to the interview stage. Cover is available for the Economist post as Huib Poot, the short term Government Economist should be returning to St Helena in mid January 2007 to take up another short-term contract.
Commenting, DFID Representative, Eddie Palmer said “While it is very good news that we have selected an MD for SHDA and a Chief Auditor, it is disappointing that we were unable to fill more of the posts. DFID and SHG are now actively considering alternative options”
Eddie went on to explain that these options might include secondments from other organisations, or ‘framework agreements’ with major consultancy companies or agencies that could enable us to access a wider pool of expertise in a more flexible way. It was always envisaged that there would need to be a package of consultancy support to underpin the work of the Change Manager, so this may now become a wider consultancy contract where the successful company would provide long and short term staff in an integrated package of support and expertise for St Helena.
The new Managing Director and Chief Auditor should be in post by mid 2007, but as with all DFID recruitments this will be subject to them meeting the various necessary clearances.
