Sergeant Dave Roberts of the Royal Falkland Islands Police updates us on the latest police activity.  This report has a distinctive winter atmosphere to it.


 


At 0757hrs on Friday, 23 June 2006 the Royal Falkland Islands Police received a report of damage to property on Callaghan Road.  The matter is under investigation and if anyone has information they can call Sergeant Roberts on 27222.


 


At 0925hrs on Friday, 23 June 2006 the Royal Falkland Islands Police received a report that the boulders had been removed from the end of Gleadell Close.  Motorists had been driving on the footpath that was blocked off by them.


 


At 2124hrs on Friday, 23 June 2006 the Royal Falkland Islands Police received a report of youths on sledges racing down Dean street past Fitzroy Road and John Street and ending up in the Capstan Gift Shop Car Park.  Police attended and advised the children of the dangers of sledging in the area.


 


At 2141hrs on Friday, 23 June 2006 the Royal Falkland Islands Police received a report of a near miss between a child on a sledge and a vehicle.  Police attended and gave the child a verbal warning.


 


At 2303hrs on Friday, 23 June 2006 the Royal Falkland Islands Police received a request for medical assistance on Gleadell Close.  KEMH staff dealt with the incident.


 


At 2308hrs on Friday, 23 June 2006 the Royal Falkland Islands Police received a report of a disturbance on Dean Street and John Street.  Police Officers attended and escorted a number of people away.


 


At 2334hrs on Monday, 26 June 2006 the Royal Falkland Islands Police received a report of a single vehicle road traffic accident on King Street.  A vehicle left the slippery surface and hit a fence.  The matter is being dealt with through insurance.


 


At 0727hrs on Tuesday, 27 June 2006 the Royal Falkland Islands Police received a report of a single vehicle road traffic accident at the bottom of Brisbane Road and Drury Street.  A vehicle left the slippery surface and hit a fence.  The matter is being dealt with through insurance.


 


At 0721hrs on Tuesday, 27 June 2006 the Royal Falkland Islands Police received a report of a 2-vehicle road traffic accident on Hebe Street.  A vehicle lost control on the ice and slid into another vehicle.  The matter is being dealt with through insurance.


 


At 0743hrs on Tuesday, 27 June 2006 the Royal Falkland Islands Police received a request for assistance for a vehicle that did not have enough traction on its tyres and got stuck half way up Philomel Street in a dangerous position.


 


At 0800hrs on Tuesday, 27 June 2006 the Royal Falkland Islands Police received a request for assistance for a vehicle that did not have enough traction and was stuck  half way up Brisbane road in a dangerous position.


 


At 0802hrs on Tuesday, 27 June 2006 the Royal Falkland Islands Police received a request for medical assistance outside the Post Office.  Police attended as well as the KEMH Staff.


 


At 0805hrs on Tuesday, 27 June 2006 a member of the public contacted the police station concerned that the slippery hills were not coned off.


 


FINN asked about the legal requirement for traction on tyres and Sgt. Roberts said that under Falkland Islands law, the only requirement for tyres is that they be filled with air.  According to Sgt. Roberts this may change.


 


At 0826hrs on Tuesday, 27 June 2006 the Royal Falkland Islands Police received a report of a road traffic accident on Hebe Street.  The motorist lost control of the vehicle due to icy conditions.  The matter is being dealt with via insurance.


 


At 0831hrs on Tuesday, 27 June 2006 the Royal Falkland Islands Police received a report of a single vehicle accident in the Yates Place car park.  The matter is being dealt with via insurance.
