Falklands : Hectic Schedule for MPs Visiting the Falklands

MPs who are visiting the Falklands can expect to be busy - and well fed.

HECTIC SCHEDULE FOR MPs VISITING THE FALKLANDS

Three MPs – Danny Alexander (Lib Dem), Daniel Kawczynski (CONS) and Dai Harvard (LAB) will be visiting the Falklands from the 14th to the 22nd of February 2006.  Upon arrival they will be met by Cllrs. Robertson and Cockwell and transported to the Malvina House Hotel, where they will have dinner with Cllrs Summers and Davies and their wives.


 


After an early breakfast on Tuesday, the MPs will have a Government Briefing at the Chamber of Commerce, visit he Fisheries Department and return to the Chamber of Commerce for a presentation about the private sector.


 


On Thursday afternoon there will be a visit to the Mineral Resources Department for a brief on Agriculture and Mineral Resources and an office call at Government House to Meet H. E. the Governor Mr. Howard Pearce.


 


On Friday morning the MPs will depart for Mount Pleasant Complex for a briefing and tour of the base.  Dinner will be at Government House with H. E. the Governor and Mrs Pearce. 


 


Saturday will be spent in Camp, with the MPs flying to Hill Cove, where Cllr Ian Hansen will meet them and give them a tour of the area and lunch with the residents.  They fly to Pebble Island in the Afternoon, where the MPs will stay at the Lodge.  Dinner and overnight at the Lodge will be followed by a tour of Pebble Island the next day before flying back to Stanley, where Tony Smith will take them on a battlefield tour.


 


On Monday the MPs will lay a wreath at the 1982 Monument, followed by a visit to the Stanley Museum.  In the afternoon they will meet the Director of Education at the Infant/Junior School for a briefing and tour.  Later there will be visits to Camp Education and the Falkland Islands Community School, where MPs will chat with the students.  A late afternoon meeting with Councillors at Gilbert House will be followed by dinner at Malvina House Hotel, hosted by Councillors.


 


The visiting MPs will depart the Falklands on Saturday, 21 February 2006.
