QUEEN’S JUBILEE MEDALS PRESENTED TO MEMBERS OF THE EMERGENCY SERVICES

RPC John Clifford Receives His Medal

members of the Police and Fire and Rescue Services have received the Queen’s Jubilee Medal for their contribution to the safety and well being of the community here in the Falklands. In his welcoming speech, H. E. the Governor, Mr. Pearce said:

Ladies and Gentlemen, normally on these occasions I would give you a lengthy speech. Fortunately for you, however, I am in the process of losing my voice, so you will get the shorter version.

It’s always a particular pleasure to have an opportunity to recognise the work, which is done by the Emergency Services. We tend, not only in this community but in many communities, to take them rather for-granted and to moan or complain about them or criticise when they don’t do exactly what we want them to do. We perhaps fail to appreciate that they are there all of the time and they are providing us with a sense of security and enabling us to relax as we go about our daily lives. We know that should an emergency happen, they are there ready to help and ready to deal with those emergencies.

I would like to take this opportunity on behalf of the community as a whole to thank the Royal Falkland Islands Police and the Fire and Rescue Service for everything they do for us and for everything they do to contribute to our quality of life. I very much appreciate that and I believe that everybody in this community very much appreciate the services.

So, a very big thank-you to everyone and for everything you do and to your colleagues who are not here tonight. I will be delivering their medals to the heads of their respective services.

This evening, it’s not only an occasion to have a good party, but also to award medals to mark the Queen’s Jubilee. It’s a very great privilege for me to be able to do that.
