STANLEY MARATHON UNDERWAY

By J. Brock (FINN)

As this is being written, the 93 runners that began Sunday’s Marathon at 1000 are on their ways to the Stanley Airport.  There was a carnival atmosphere at the start line, in the car park behind the Post Office and adjacent to Standard Chartered Bank, the sponsors of the first Stanley Marathon.  Marshals and spectators alike gathered to watch the start by H. E. the Governor Mr. Howard Pearce.

The runners made a right turn out of the car park on to Ross Road heading west and after turning left at Beaver Hanger, they headed down Jeremy Moore Avenue, and back on to Ross Road heading east towards the airport via Sapper Hill.

Before completing the course, the runners will have completed the circuit twice.

A fuller report will be posted later.
