Falklands : 99th Anniversary of Battle of the Falklands Celebrated in Stanley

A celebration to mark the 99th anniversary of the Battle of the Falklands took place in Stanley on Sunday, 08 December 2013.

99th Anniversary of Battle of the Falklands Celebrated in Stanley

A celebration to mark the 99th anniversary of the Battle of the Falklands took place in Stanley on Sunday, 08 December 2013.

The commemoration began at Christ Church Cathedral where a brief service of remembrance took place. The Rev Dr Richard Hines took the service. Members of |legislative Assembly, senior Government Officers, and members of the public including youth groups took part in the service along with H.E. the Governor Mr Nigel Hayward and CBSAI. The Band of Her Majesty’s royal Marines School of Music provided accompaniment to traditional hymns.

A parade consisting of the FIDF, a Contingent from HMS Richmond and The Band of Her Majesty’s royal Marines School of Music marched to the 1914 Monument where a brief service with wreath laying was followed by a fly-past.

Following the parade there was a brief reception at the FIDF Club.
