Peter Hayes, Director, Overseas Territories is visiting the Falklands on a familiarisation visit.

DIRECTOR OVERSEAS TERRITORIES VISITS THE FALKLANDS

Peter Hayes, Director, Overseas Territories is visiting the Falklands on a familiarisation visit.  During his short stay he will be visiting Government Departments like the Schools and Hospital and attending an FIG briefing.  He will also meet with MLAs and take a brief tour in camp.

 

Dr Hayes took up office on 15 October 2012, replacing Colin Roberts, who is taking up another Diplomatic Service posting as Governor of the Falkland Islands.

 

Having extensive career in the Diplomatic Service most recently as High Commissioner to Sri Lanka and High Commissioner to the Maldives, Mr Hayes has already visited Ascension Island and St Helena.

 

Throughout his diplomatic career Mr Hayes held a number of positions including Principal Private Secretary to former UK Secretaries, Straw, Beckett and Miliband.  He also served as Councillor in the British Embassy in Washington DC covering energy, environment, science and climate change and HM Council General in Washington DC.

 

Dr Hayes holds a PhD in Nuclear Physics from King’s College, London.
